last blog entry!

Studying EWS has been a great experience and having a wonderful and competent teacher like Miss Bina Shah only added to the joy! My writing skills have notably improved during this course in the context that many misconceptions that I had earlier about a good writing piece, have changed. For example now I know and even believe that a simple sentence written with honesty is way better than some pretentious one with fancy words. My true style of writing has also shaped up and it's just a matter of days that I will fully discover it.
The content covered during the course has been good too and the variety of topics offered has been the best part. That not only helped us develop our abilities in all kinds of writing but also saved us from getting bored. the Harvard Reader is a very good book, the guidelines mentioned in it are indeed very useful although I do think, better and more interesting essays should be included in the EWS book. Blogging is fun to do!
This may sound flattering but EWS is one of the very few courses I'm going to miss after they are over. I wish other teachers could learn the same teaching technique as Miss Bina's!

PS. I'm a big fan of your sarcastic humor! :)

This is an advertisemnt for the soft drink Pepsi. It shows the super star Britney Spears who is a very famous American singer and especially popular among the young generation. This is a typical technique of company owners to associate famous celebrities with their products to increase sale. She is shown as to endorse the product, and presents a rock star image to attract audience. They are trying to propogate the idea that super stars like her, drink their product, and we should too. Not only will her fans go for it but the glamour image shown in the ad will attract other people too. thier tag line "Ask for more" sells a promise that once we drink Pepsi we will be wanting more.

I just don't get what the problem with this Jonathan Swift guy is? Why can't he just voice his opinions in a normal "standard, English writer, with excellent vocabulary," kind of a way? Just tell the government that you want them to solve the hunger issues instead of suggestions like "Eat your baby up careless fellows!" or " Hmm yummy...this pie is delicious.Wanna try some? It's made out of your children!"
Some day take me to Jonathan's kids and lets see if he finds it funny when I suggest making baby salads out of his kids!

october 8th earthquake

October 8th is one of those dates, whose effects will echo on till the very end in the life of every Pakistani. It was the day when several areas of Pakistan were hit by a very powerful earthquake resulting in huge amounts of financial and human loss. But perhaps even more painful was the incapibility of the Pakisatni Government to cope up with the demands and needs of that time. However the enthusiasm in helping the effected people and genuine feelings of sympathy that all the citizens showed must be appreciated.

On that day, I was in my college and I got to know about this incident only when I got back home. It obviously disturbed me a lot and I wished I could do something about it. I did manage to contribute money in different funds and helped the earthquake struck people as much as I could.

final thesis statement

Orwell sought respect from those people that would actually never respect him, resulting in the needless "shooting of the elephant" incident.

9/11 incident

I am an American woman living in New York and 9/11 has just happened. I’m reporting the incident to a news channel.“All I know is that I was walking down that path when I suddenly heard a loud noise followed by another which is no doubt the most terrible one I’ve ever heard in my life. I did not turn around to see what had gone wrong, I just ran as fast as I could to get to a secure place. Once I was in one, I saw what can be called as the most shocking sights. Two planes had crashed into the Twin Towers and there was a lot of smoke. People were running around like crazy. I could not take it and I collapsed to the ground. When I woke up I was in this civil hospital and everyone was talking about the terrorist attack. I know it was Osama bin Laden who did all this, I just know it. These Muslim terrorist won’t let us live peacefully. We should kill them all!”
